About our blog

This blog began as an attempt to keep our family and friends included in the adventures of little Baby Blakely until he made his appearance in the world. Now, this has become a gathering place for all of our various adventures as we continue to enjoy time as a growing family.

No way

Well our little man slept mostly through the night and allowed us to get a little sleep ourselves. Maybe we've turned a corner on the sleep issue? That being said, the rest of the house is becoming frustratingly expensive.

Last week we noticed the washing machine wasn't draining water. Since we do laundry every night to clean Noah's cloth diapers, this was a devastating loss. We limped through with the washer for a few days until we could get a repair person out. That happened on Friday of last week. He told us the problem wasn't with the washer, it was with the plumbing. It seems we had a clog.

A dear friend and all around good handyman came by Saturday and suggested we get a plumber's snake and try to clear the clog. Mind you, most of the plumbing was inside the wall so there is no way to have known the nightmare we were about to find.

I broke the snake trying to get it into the pipe to clear the clog. Our laundry was approaching critical mass so I decided to give up my pride and call a plumber in. I tried one who was suggested to us and he laughed about the issue and said he wasn't available.

I got one to come out on Saturday to address the issue and we found a whole host of interesting things once he opened the wall. There was a check valve (only allows water to flow one way) that wasn't supposed to be there, a sink drain that was pointed towards the washing machine (hence the check valve that had gotten clogged), and then, the icing on the crap cake, the pip wasn't even attached to the drain. It seems we had the potential to be dumping water into the wall this entire time. We got lucky that it seems gravity and the grace of God kept the water flowing past the gap in the pipe and into the drain.

The Saturday fix didn't address the issue and we, hopefully, have another plumber (who we trust explicitly) fixing the issue today.

It seems this weekend I may be patching a gaping hole in the wall.
